As i said before, im not very educated in the goth music genre, but i will list a few subgenres and when they were popular :) most of this info comes from this website




There are so many stypes of Darkwave, but ill just summarize it. Darkwave was originated in the late '70s. it came from a new wave of post-punk, and has gloomy and dark (hence the name) characteristics. Something i think is cool about Darkwave is that the music often features string/orchestral instruments.

One of the only types of Goth ive listened to is Gothic Rock. Gothic Rock popped up in the '60s, also coming from punk music. (punk music shows up a lot when talking about alt roots) Glam rock also influences Gothic Rock.
